L'Amerzone: Le Testament de l’explorateur
About
For this very ambitious yet fascinating project, we created several cinematics for the beginning of this remake of the 1999 video game, telling the story of scientist Alexandre Valembois and his discovery in Amerzone.
Most of the scenes in these sequences were filmed in our studio, with fully recreated sets to capture the atmosphere of Valembois’ office from the original game. We also blended several different styles – hand-drawn stop-motion, cut-out paper animation, motion design sequences in After Effects, and photorealistic 3D – resulting in highly original sequences that integrate perfectly into the heart of the game’s introduction.
The goal was to pay tribute to the creator of the original game and its universe, Benoît Sokal, who illustrated the entirety of Professor Valembois’ travel journal, which we recreated in real life so we could film it from every angle.
Valembois’ story is divided into three parts. The first one tells of his discovery of the Amerzone, the explorer’s new friendships, and the first signs of trouble.
Cutscene 2
The second part focuses on the life cycle of the White Birds’ egg, as well as his encounter with the Ovo-volahos tribe and Yékoumani.
Cutscene 3
Finally, the last cutscene shows how Valembois stole the egg and returned to Europe, losing everything he had.
